Deck beams are now in place and being painted ready for our shipright Tim Goldsack and his team to start laying the new deck. The galvanised iron beams around the hold openings all need etching primer and will need a couple more coats of paint before they are covered over - it is much easier to paint them at this stage rather than try to cut around them later.

New outer whale in place - nearly ready for the deck
Tim is progressing well with the new outer whale in place ready for planking up the sides. All this structural work is complicated and time consuming but now is the time to have it all renewed to a high standard to minimise later maintenance work.
Interior looking from the bow - you won't see a full view like this of the interior of a barge very often

Stern view and new stern knee
Tim also has most of the stern rebuilt and planked. It is sometimes hard to remember the poor condition it was all in not that long ago.
